These Terms and Conditions apply to all people using a hire bike provided by Royal Canal Bike Hire (hereinafter referred to as RCBH). Completion of a booking/reservation acknowledges acceptance of these Terms and Conditions by the participant. 

Please bring a copy of your hire confirmation and photo I.D. along to the store on the day.


Covid-19 Precautions

Please ensure that you are adhering to the latest government guidelines for travel, recreation and any tier levels imposed in your area.

To ensure the safety of our customers and staff, the following precautions will be in place, and we, please ask that you adhere to current government guidance when hiring a bicycle:


  1. All hire must be prebooked and paid for online.
  2. Social distance measures must be adhered to.
  3. High contact areas of bicycles (seats, handlebars etc.) will be sanitised after use.
  4. Customers will be asked to sanitise hands before and after using bikes.
  5. Our staff will wear face coverings and gloves during all interaction with the public.
  6. While we will take appropriate precautions to limit the spread of coronavirus, we cannot guarantee that there is no risk of infection from the use of our facilities.  Customers will be required to take responsibility for their own personal safety by following government advice on protecting themselves and others from coronavirus (https://www2.hse.ie/coronavirus/)

A member of staff will ask to see your booking confirmation.

You will be provided with the routes you are able to ride on and demonstrate the functions of how the equipment operates.

You will be shown where your hired equipment (bicycles etc) are located and where to return the equipment to upon your return.



Cancellation Policy


Cancellation less than 48 hours prior to departure date and time or no show – no refund.

No refund will be made for the early return of the bicycles.



Hire Terms and Conditions 


The hirer is fully responsible for their action whilst using the hire bike. RCBH do not accept responsibility for the actions of the participant nor the consequences of such actions. 

Each rider is responsible for providing their own insurance protection while using a hire bike. Any accident or injury caused by the rider’s actions will be the full responsibility of the said rider. 

Each participant will be fully responsible for any fees or costs incurred or arising from an accident either involving or caused by the rider. 

Each rider, upon signing the booking form agrees that they are physically and mentally capable of riding the hire bike. 

The booking form must be completed by a person aged 18 years or over. Evidence of age may be requested. 

Riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 

It is strongly recommended that all persons hiring from us wear a cycle helmet at all times. RCBH reserve the right to refuse to hire bike use to anyone with inappropriate equipment or clothing. RCBH is not responsible for damage to clothing and/or personal items. 


  1. The rider agrees to return the bike to the hire bike staff. Failure to return the bike will result in RCBH recovering the full retail value of the bike from the rider. 
  2. The rider is responsible for any negligent damage caused to the bike. The cost of any damage caused (over and above standard wear and tear) will be recovered from the rider, including but not limited to, skidded tyres and buckled wheels. 
  3. Photo ID must be provided before the hire bike(s) will be released to the participant. Only nationally recognised forms of ID will be accepted i.e. Photo driving license and passport. 
  4. Waterways Ireland reminds hirers that the suitability of the track cannot be guaranteed. 
  5. We will endeavour to provide the bike(s) which you have booked, but we reserve the right to substitute your booked bikes for a bike(s) of the same value. 
  6. Please bring a copy of your booking confirmation collecting your bikes.
  7. Age restrictions apply for child seats, children should be between 1 & 4 years old and/or weight between 9kg and 22kg max.

Hire code of conduct 

  • Read the safety information on the signs provided. 
  • Keep your children in sight. 
  • Don’t race cycles and keep within 20kph and slower around busier sections of the greenway
  • Helmets are advised when cycling. 
  • Follow the Countryside and Highway Codes and consider other track users. 
  • Dismount at bridges, road crossings and at gates. 
  • Track surface conditions may vary and can’t be guaranteed for cycling. 
  • Beware of people fishing along the canal backcasting. 
  • Take note of cycle centre and site closing times.
